Thirteen bodies found in western Mexico
Jan 9, 2012, 21:38 GMT
Mexico City - The bodies of 13 men were found Monday in a pile near a store in the western Mexican town of Zitacuaro, Michoacan state authorities said.
Police found the bodies some 170 kilometres west of Mexico city, on the border between Michoacan and the state of Mexico.
The bodies, which were yet to be identified, all had gun shot wounds and had no signs of having been tortured, the authorities said.
Michoacan, on Mexico's Pacific coast, has a heavy presence of drug cartels including The Knights Templar, La Familia and the Sinaloa cartel.
According to local media, a message on inter-gang rivalry was left by the bodies.
More than 45,000 people have been killed in Mexico over the past five years in incidents linked to organized crime.
