Jan 24, 2012, 16:07 GMT
Mexico City - Five police officers and one civilian died in a Mexico City suburb when a gang attacked a police convoy in an attempt to free two detained men, Mexican media reported Tuesday.
According to the report, the men were being transported by the police when a taxi blocked the patrol cars' way and its occupants attacked the police.
The dead civilian and one of the injured were reportedly suspects, although their identities were not made public and it was not immediately clear whether or not they had been travelling in the two patrol cars.
More than 47,000 people have died in Mexico since December 2006 in incidents linked to organized crime.
