New York - A delegation of the UN Security Council began Monday a visit to Haiti for talks with government officials and to assess UN work in helping the nation recover from the devastating earthquake in 2010.
The delegation arrived in Port-au-Prince and was met by Haitian officials. On Tuesday, it will travel to regions affected by the massive earthquake in January, 2010, before returning to New York on Thursday.
The UN said the council members were to assess implementation of its resolutions concerning the UN mission in Haiti and discuss the situation with government officials there.
More than 300,000 people died in the magnitude-7 earthquake that struck the densely populated capital city.
