Thai thieves make massive ATM withdrawal
Jan 25, 2007, 4:25 GMT
Bangkok - Thieves made away with 2.5 million baht (69,444 dollars) in an automatic teller machine (ATM) they withdrew from a bank in southern Thailand, media reports said Thursday.
A gang of five men carried off the ATM heist at 2 a.m. Wednesday at a Krung Thai Bank branch in Hat Yai, 710 kilometres south of Bangkok, said the Bangkok Post.
Surveillance camera footage showed two of the men holding a bank guard at gunpoint while the other three removed the ATM from the wall, put it on a pushcart and wheeled it out to a waiting pickup truck to make their getaway.
Sathaporn Nimpradub, the overpowered guard, said the ATM withdrawal took less than 20 minutes.
The robbers got away with 2,450,000 baht in cash that had been put in the ATM on Tuesday.
