Philippine president's husband recovering from heart surgery
Apr 10, 2007, 6:07 GMT
Manila - The husband of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was resting Tuesday after undergoing a risky heart surgery, doctors said.
Jose Miguel Arroyo, 60, underwent a 10-hour operation that lasted until before dawn Tuesday for an aortic aneurism, Doctor Juliet Cervantes said.
'He is already awake,' Cervantes said. 'That is a very great blessing because, the way it appears, he is recovering faster than we thought.'
The doctor said the next 48 hours would be critical for the president's lawyer husband, who was rushed to hospital Sunday for chronic gastritis.
President Arroyo cancelled most of her schedule Monday and Tuesday to stay with her husband at the hospital, but she did meet some cabinet officials at the hospital.
