Australians rue new Qantas kangaroo logo
Jul 24, 2007, 0:55 GMT
Sydney - Australians were underwhelmed Tuesday when national airline Qantas revealed the updated flying kangaroo logo that will adorn the tails of its planes.
The cartoon-style creature with a fatter tail and huge feet was an instant miss with advertising industry executives.
The One Centre head John Ford said the symbol that had set Qantas apart from other airlines for 63 years was now 'more like a pterodactyl than a flying kangaroo.'
Whybin TBWA creating director Garry Horner told The Sydney Morning Herald that tinkering with an iconic image would prove a huge mistake.
'It was a great logo, and if it's not broken don't fix it,' Horner said.
Qantas said the big feet and a bigger tail kept its image 'contemporary and relevant.'
