Indonesian president leaves for UN
Sep 23, 2007, 3:46 GMT
Jakarta - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono travelled to New York Sunday to attend the 62nd United Nations General Assembly and the UN summit on climate change.
Indonesia is slated to host the UN climate change conference on December 3-14.
Monday's one-day session is designed to build political momentum toward progress at December's annual UN climate treaty conference, in Bali. Proponents hope to launch negotiations for an emissions'-reduction agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol in 2012.
Yudhoyono was scheduled to make a series of meetings, including with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamil Al Maliki, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyep Erdogan, the Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, World Bank President Robert B Zoellick, and UN chief Ban Ki-moon, the report said.
Yudhoyono and his entourage are scheduled to arrive back in Jakarta on September 26.
