Cambodian police recover bodies of two Singaporean rowers
Nov 25, 2007, 2:23 GMT
Phnom Penh - Cambodian police on Sunday had recovered the bodies of two of five Singaporean rowers, who had fallen from their boat after it capsized during annual dragon boat races more than 48 hours earlier.
Police said the two bodies were recovered not far from the area where the boat capsized while trying to dock late Friday afternoon. The remains had been confirmed as two of the five Singaporean university graduates who had gone missing.
The names of those found early Sunday morning had not yet been released. Members of the rowers' families were already in Phnom Penh waiting for news of their loved ones.
Another 17 members of the Singaporean crew were immediately rescued following the accident when the narrow wooden longboat tried to dock after a race. A massive rescue effort failed to locate five other rowers, and police had said they feared they could not be found alive after hours in the strong currents of the Tonle Sap river.
