Fifty thousand Taiwanese form human Christmas tree
Dec 22, 2007, 13:20 GMT
Taipei - Some 50,000 people holding illuminating objects formed a human Christmas tree in Taiwan Saturday to show the world that Christmas can be celebrated without cutting down trees.
Led by Mayor Chen Chu, 50,000 people in the southern port city of Kaohsiung gathered on Shidai Avenue Saturday afternoon in the shape of a giant Christmas tree, and when darkness fell, they held up torches, fluorescent sticks and cell phones.
Mayor Chen said Kaohsiung would apply for a Guinness world record for the giant human Christmas tree.
