Philippines hit by 6.9 magnitude earthquake
Mar 3, 2008, 16:45 GMT
Washington - An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck the Philippines Monday, the US Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit near the Philippine island of Samar, or about 525 kilometres east-southeast of Manila, the USGS reported from its earthquake centre in Denver, Colorado.
The earthquake hit at 10:11 pm Philippine time. The USGS did not have reports of damage or injuries, but said it may have caused damage due to its location and size.
There was no expectation of a tsunami wave along the western coast of the US, the USGS said.
