There was no Presidential election in 1990 in Myanmar. There was an election to elect a body to agree a new constitution. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was not a candidate in that election. She was forbidden from standing as a parliamentary (pyithu hluttaw) constituency candidate from Bahan Township because of her connections with United Kingdom including her permanent address in Oxford. Please get your facts right and you will be believed.
In 1990 the National League for Democracy (NLD) won the country’s first and free multiparty elections in three decades. The Military Rulers ignored the un-expected results when NLD under the leadership of Aung San Suu Kyi won 392 of 485 contested seats.
It was a proper election to elect members of Parliments to form a democratic government, NOT to write a CONSTITUTION as reported by Dr Tin Hla in line with the Generals' distorted post-election lies.
In 1990, the National League for Democracy (NLD) won the country’s free and fair multiparty elections. The entire world has accepted the result, despite some argued that the election was to elect a body to agree a new constitution.
Now, I would appreciate if someone can explain me why Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her NLD members are not allowed to participate in the drafting of the constitution as a legal Party elected in 1990? Frankly, I reluctant to hear excuses and crafty expressions anymore that giving by junta and their culprits, such as “scientific democracy” or “disciplined democracy” for 20 years. Enough is enough.
