China announces Shanghai meet to discuss Iran's nuclear programme
Apr 8, 2008, 10:57 GMT
Beijing - Officials from China, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, the US and the EU, are to meet in Shanghai April 16 to discuss negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme, China's foreign ministry announced in Beijing Tuesday.
The meeting's aim is to discuss 'plans to resume talks on the Iranian nuclear issue and promote a resolution of the issue through diplomatic negotiations,' the foreign ministry said.
China has previously expressed the opinion that the nuclear issue should be resolved peacefully through negotiation and dialogue.
Beijing said it was hoping for 'positive results' from the talks.
Iran last month ruled out further talks with major powers saying that concerns about its nuclear programme should be dealt with exclusively by the UN watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.

What on earth is there to discuss about Iran's nuclear program? Iran is doing exactly what many other nations are doing, conducting a perfectly legal nuclear energy program under the auspices of the IAEA as a signatory to the NPT. Until there is hard evidence to show that Iran is trying to make nuclear weapons, the matter should not even be up for debate.
Why should Iran even consider these so-called incentives in the first place? WHy should Iran abrogate its legal rights for any reason? And what about the completely illegal activity of the USA in threatening military action if Iran does not kowtow to Western demands?
It just shows the utter hypocrisy of the USA and its few allies and the belligerence of a warmongering superpower. No wonder people want to attack Americans wherever they are - they keep asking for it.
