Jun 12, 2008, 3:53 GMT
Wellington - Two men appeared in court Thursday charged with the murder of Sikh Navtej Singh, 30, who was fatally shot in a raid on his liquor store near Auckland on Saturday night, news reports said.
Anitelea Chan Kee, 20, and Tino Faamele Felise, 17, were also charged with armed robbery of cash, alcohol and phone cards worth 4,000 New Zealand dollars (about 3,040 US dollars).
Mefiposeta Chan Kee, 24, also appeared in the Manukau District Court charged with being an accessory to the crime by allegedly dumping cardboard packaging from alcohol taken during the robbery and disposing of the .22 rifle used to shoot Singh.
All three were remanded in custody until August 6.
Police said that two other suspects wanted in connection with the crime were still on the run.
There is an average of one aggravated robbery a week in the Auckland region and representatives of about 12,000 Sikhs, who own most of the small liquor and convenience stores, met police this week to demand more protection.
