Report: North Korea destroys Yongbyon cooling tower (1st Lead)

Seoul - North Korea on Friday destroyed a cooling tower at its Yongbyon nuclear plant in a symbolic move towards an agreement to dismantle the state's nuclear programme in return for easing of sanctions against the communist state, South Korean television station MBC reported.
The Friday afternoon demolition of the 25-metre tower, that was shut down in 2007, came a day after Pyongyang delivered a declaration of its nuclear programmes to China under an agreement reached at the six-party disarmament talks.
In exchange the US will ease off some trade sanctions and remove the communist state from its terrorism blacklist.
The five-year-long six-party talks to dismantle North Korea's nuclear weapons programme and create a nuclear-free zone on the Korean peninsula involve the two Koreas, China, Japan, Russia and the United States.
