China's president calls for more aid for global food crisis
Jul 9, 2008, 3:43 GMT
Toyako, Japan - Chinese President Hu Jintao called for more aid to address the world's food security Wednesday at the Group of Eight (G8) leaders meeting in Toyako, Japan.
President Hu also rejected the argument which blames the development of big developing countries for hikes in world food prices, according to Xinhua news agency.
'That does not have to do anything with the facts, also it is not a constructional attitude to solving the problem,' said Hu, who added that there are in fact multi-faceted and complex factors behind the price hikes.
'Developing countries suffer most from rising food prices,' he said.
China's president said his country was ready to share their expertise in agricultural development with other developing countries and provide help as supplies allow so as to raise the integrated agricultural production capacity of developing countries.
He said the United Nations should be supported in playing a coordinating role and endorsed a fair international trading system.
