Magnitude 6.8 quake injures 91 people in northern Japan

Tokyo - At least 91 people were injured in a magnitude-6.8 earthquake that hit northern Japan Wednesday night, media reports said.
The quake left some 10,000 households without electricity in northern Iwate, Aomori, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, and some 201 households in Iwate were left without water, local media reported Thursday.
About 13 of those injured were in serious condition, while others sustained minor injuries, police said.
Landslides were reported in some mountainous areas, as the seismic wave rattled buildings across northern Japan.
No damage was reported to nuclear power plants in Miyagi and Fukushima provinces, or at nuclear fuel recycling facilities in Aomori city.
The government set up a task force at the prime minister's office to deal with the quake's aftermath.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake's epicentre was 108 kilometres under the sea basin off the north-eastern coast of Iwate province.
