Alligator caught at Australian campsite
Dec 30, 2008, 8:45 GMT
Sydney - Holidaymakers helped a snake handler on vacation capture a 1.5-metre long American alligator at a camping ground in Australia, news reports said on Tuesday.
A group of people sat on the creature to help Hans Rasker subdue it at Pambula, on the south coast of New South Wales, on Monday, ABC Radio reported.
It was initially thought to be a man-eating saltwater crocodile that had strayed well south of its usual habitat in Queensland, but the National Parks and Wildlife Service identified it as an American alligator that was probably an exotic pet released into the wild by its owner.
It was taken to a zoo.
