Two dead in crash landing of cargo plane in Japan (3rd Lead)
Mar 23, 2009, 1:08 GMT
Tokyo - The pilot and copilot of a Federal Express cargo plane were killed Monday in a fiery landing at Narita airport near Tokyo, according to media reports citing official information.
CNN showed footage of the crippled plane bouncing twice, as it veered off the runway aflame.
Strong crosswinds bounced the plane - an MD-11 coming from China - twice on the landing strip before 7 am local time, causing it to flip, Japan's broadcaster NHK reported.
The only people on board the MD-11 operated by FedEx were a pilot and co-pilot. The plane was reduced to ashes and debris.
The plane had come from Guangzhou in China.
