Japan, Venezuela to cooperate in natural resources development
Apr 6, 2009, 9:54 GMT
Tokyo - Japan and Venezuela agreed on Monday to seek ways to jointly develop oil and natural gas fields in the South American nation, a Japanese government official said.
During a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, visiting President Hugo Chavez agreed to help Japanese firms operating in Venezuela, according to Japanese Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Harufumi Mochizuki.
Japan hopes to establish a mutually beneficial relationship with Venezuela matching Tokyo's technological know-how and Caracas's natural resources.
Aso proposed that the two countries establish public-private talks to strengthen their trade and investment, Mochizuki said.
Chavez also expressed concerns for the regional peace after North Korea launched a rocket Sunday.
