Survey says Taiwan women care more about breast size than men do

Jun 3, 2009, 7:50 GMT

Taipei - Most Taiwan men do not care about the size of women's breasts, but most women are concerned about it, according to a survey published Wednesday.

The survey of 264 men and 336 women by the Taichung County government, 75 per cent of the men interviewed said they did not care about the size of women's breasts, but 60 per cent of the polled women said they were concerned about the size of their own.

The survey also showed that among both male and female respondents, 86 per cent disapprove of the increase of televised advertisements featuring teenage girls who have big breasts but seem to possess limited intelligence.

The county government conducted the survey in conjunction with the Taichung Women's Reading Society to try to correct some Taiwanese misconceptions that men prefer women with large breasts, and care little for their intellectual capacity.

Chang Chuang-hsi, deputy magistrate of Taichung County, said the purpose of the survey was to correct stereotypes of women.

'What matters is what you have in your brain, your behaviour, your manners and your health,' he told a news conference.

Wang Hsiu-yen, head of the county government's social works department, said the survey showed that many Taiwan women are still bound by the traditional stereotype that women with large breasts have more sex appeal.

'It is high time for women to shake off such stereotypes,' she said.
