No romance for finder of diamond ring in treasure hunt

Jun 7, 2009, 2:48 GMT

Wellington - The lucky finder of a diamond engagement ring that a spurned New Zealand lover gave away in a treasure hunt has no love in his life and might give it to his mum, according to news reports on Sunday.

Ryan Roselli, 21, an architecture student at Wellington's Victoria University beat another 100 hunters to find the ring Saturday after spending seven hours following 14 clues its unlucky owner Anthony Gardiner put on his Twitter social messaging service.

Gardiner, 29, bought the ring, which has five 0.25 carat diamonds set in white gold and is valued at 5,000 New Zealand dollars (3,250 US dollars), in Hong Kong in September to propose to the girl of his dreams.

But as he said last week, 'I met this girl I thought was pretty cool, bought a ring, turns out she wasn't as keen. Obviously it's a pretty unlucky ring for me, so it's a spare ring.'

He said he hoped the ring would be found by 'somebody who's keen, who's found a cool chick and who wants to give them something they normally wouldn't be able to afford.'

But after finding the ring, Roselli said he had no girl friend and would give it to his mum or sell it.
