Jun 15, 2009, 3:10 GMT
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian police arrested a married couple believed to be part of an international drug trafficking syndicate, reports said Monday.
The suspects, a 35-year-old man and his 32-year-old wife, were detained at their textile shop in the northern Kelantan state Friday night, where police seized 17,475 Eramine 5 pills valued at 261,975 ringgit (74,850 dollars).
Police also seized two cars, cash, mobile phones, jewelry and a computer.
The drugs, which were found on the first floor of the shop, were meant for distribution in Thailand, district police volunteer corps chief Abdul Rahim Jaafar said.
The couple was believed to have obtained the drugs from the southern Johor state, Abdul Rahim said. He said the male suspect had a previous criminal record and tested positive for drugs.
The couple was remanded for investigations and will be charged with drug trafficking, which prescribes a mandatory death sentence upon being found guilty.
