North Korean leader's son being groomed to succeed him
Jun 16, 2009, 3:05 GMT
Tokyo - North Korean leader's third son, Kim Jon Un, made a secret visit to Beijing and revealed the unofficial decision that he would succeed his father as supreme leader, a leading Japanese daily said Tuesday.
The younger Kim told Chinese President Hu Jing Tao during a meeting in Beijing that it has been decided that he will succeed Kim Jong Il as a North Korean leader, Japan's Asahi Shimbun quoted Chinese and North Korean sources as saying.
Hu urged Kim, who was on China visit as a special envoy, to cancel the plan to conduct a third nuclear test and resolve the conflict in a peaceful way.
China also urged North Korea to return to the six-party talks at an early date, the report said.
