UN secretary general arrives in Japan for talks
Jun 30, 2009, 8:41 GMT
Tokyo - United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Japan Tuesday for talks ahead of a trip to Myanmar.
He was expected to discuss Myanmar, North Korea and the fight against climate change with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso in a meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
After his visit to Japan, Ban was due to visit Myanmar on Friday and Saturday for talks with its military junta.
Ban spokeswoman Michele Montas said earlier in New York that the secretary general would put pressure on the junta to release all the country's political prisoners, including the Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.
