Death toll rises to 156 after Uighurs riot in China (Extra)

Jul 6, 2009, 19:50 GMT

Beijing - At least 156 people died and more than 800 were injured after ethnic minority Uighurs clashed with police and attacked members of China's Han majority in the far western region of Xinjiang, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Several hundred rioters were arrested following the violence, which began after a protest by Uighurs on Sunday in the regional capital of Urumqi.

They were demanding government action following the death of at least two Uighur factory workers and serious injury to dozens of others in the southern Chinese city of Shaoguan in late June.

The US-based World Uighur Congress quoted witnesses as saying scores of Uighurs were shot or beaten to death by police. The group claimed more than 800 deaths.

How many han Chinese casualties due to riot, no western news care to find out. They only want to speculate on Uighurs castlties. Uighurs confessing to planning carnage and destruction to Chinese Cities while in Guantanamo Bay were classified as non terrorist and released by US courts. If China were to capture Osama Bin Laden and release him to some safe haven because he promise not to attack China but will only attack Americans , how that for a tit 4 tat.
Really , the western media are anti chinese

'The western media are anti chinese'

Uighers are Chinese, no? That's the official position of the Chinese government, at any rate. Also, most news articles I've read, including this one, report that Uighers initiated the violence and attacked Hans. What on earth are you complaining about?
