Exiled Uighurs call for support from Tibetans
Jul 14, 2009, 13:08 GMT
New Delhi - Members of China's Muslim Uighur minority exiled abroad have Tuesday called on the Dalai Lama to support their cause against Beijing, as fellow 'victims of Chinese colonialism.'
The office of the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, said that they had received a letter from the Washington-based World Uighur Congress asking for support.
Both Tibet and Xinjiang, in the western region of modern-day China, have traditionally been non-Han Chinese, and have frequently perceived the activities of the country's dominant ethnicity as imperialism.
All 'victims of the brutal advance' of the Communist government in Beijing should stand together, the letter said, to make their voices 'louder and stronger.'
Exiled Uighurs are planning protests at Chinese embassies worldwide, similar to those conducted by Tibetan exiles during the crackdown by Beijing in the Tibetan capital Lhasa in March 2008.
More than 180 people died in violent clashes between Uighur-minority Muslims and police and Han Chinese residents of the Xinjiang capital of Urumqi in July this year.

Buddhist are always victims of Muslims fanatics. There are many Han Chinese who are Buddhist. Buddhist does not support wanton killing. Only tibetans does. Wonder what is the middle way if they support Muslims fanatics killers.
Rebea Kadeer is oneextraordinary Uyghur. Enterprising by Uyghurs standard and recognised by the CCP and given a leadership role. A biggest mistake was allowing herself to be associated with hostile foreign powers , an unforgiving crime with an extremely xenophobic leadership. The new leadership facing sanctioned and hostile foreign pressure, she would have suffered a worse fate like disappearance , kidnapped and shot. Except the country under a more moral leadership allowed detractors the option to leave
