Jul 15, 2009, 2:40 GMT
Wellington - Seddon Bennington, 61, chief executive of New Zealand's national museum, and a female family friend were found dead Wednesday after they failed to return from a weekend hiking trip in snow-covered hills north of Wellington, police said.
A search party found the bodies of Bennington and Marcella (Rosie) Jackson, 54, who went into the Tararua Ranges on Saturday for what was supposed to be an overnight hike.
Bennington was director of the Carnegie Science Center in the United States before heading the national museum in 2003.
