Jul 17, 2009, 5:57 GMT
Tokyo - Ten mountain climbers have died in bad weather in the Taisetsu mountain range on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, media reports said Friday.
The body of a 64-year-old woman was found on the 2,052-metre peak Mount Biei while eight other people were reported dead on the 2,141-metre Mount Tomuraushi and a man died in hospital after being found unconscious on the same mountain Friday, local police said.
The climbers in their 50s and 60s had been travelling in separate groups since Tuesday in strong winds and rain.
Police said the victims might have become exhausted in the bad weather and the area has few lodges to shelter in.
