Earthquake shakes remote area of Tibet

Beijing - An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shook a remote area of China's Tibet region Friday, the US Geological Survey reported.
The epicentre of the quake that struck at 11:12 am (0312 GMT) was 2,925 kilometres west of Beijing and 360 kilometres north-west of the nearest Tibetan town, Shigatse, close to China's border with Nepal, the agency said on its website.
The quake, which was not immediately reported by Chinese state media or the China Earthquake Administration, occurred at a depth of about 10.3 kilometres, it said.
