Russell Crowe morphs into Maximus Mountain Bike
Sep 4, 2009, 12:17 GMT
Sydney - An Australian newspaper columnist who mocked Oscar- winner Russell Crowe's fags-and-tacos fitness regime had her comeuppance when she lost a head-to-head mountain biking race with the sometimes prickly Gladiator star, news reports said Friday.
Crowe took umbrage when Sydney's Daily Telegraph snapped him a week ago puffing on cigarettes and sitting down to tacos midway through a bicycle ride with his personal trainer.
The New Zealand-born actor challenged Annette Sharp to keep up with him through the streets of Sydney - and she accepted.
'When you make a living throwing stones you expect that one day someone is going to lob one back,' Sharp wrote of her duel at dawn. 'This was that day.'
Video of the pair shows Sharp struggling and a fit-looking Crowe out in front. At one point, a crestfallen Sharp actually fell off her bike.
'This was surely it - his victory moment,' she wrote. 'Yet he was gracious, concerned, the perfect gentleman as he rolled up my trousers to check my knee.'
