Taipei - Taiwan's in-coming premier Wu Den-yih on Wednesday announced the new Cabinet's lineup, ahead of the formal Cabinet reshuffle.
Timothy Yang, 57, a veteran diplomat who has headed the Foreign Ministry's European and African affairs departments, will take over as foreign minister, Wu told a news conference.
The new defence minister will be Kao Hua-chu, currently chairman of the Veterans Affairs Commission. Kao, 53, has held a string of positions in the Taiwan Army, with the highest being the deputy commander-in-chief of the army.
Tsai Hsung-hsiung will be the new designer of Taiwan's economy, taking over as minister of the Council for Economic Planning and Development.
The new economics and finance ministers are Shih Yen-hsiang and Lee Shu-teh, respectively.
The new positions will be confirme in a formal ceremony on Thursday.
President Ma Ying-jeou approved the Cabinet reshuffle as his government came under mounting criticism for its slow response to Typhoon Morakot which killed 758 people on August 8.
After Premier Liu Chao-shiuan resigned Monday, President Ma named Wu Den-yih, secretary-general of the ruling Chinese Nationalist Party, as the new premier.
