Taiwanese protest government's poor response to disaster
Sep 19, 2009, 10:08 GMT
Taipei - Hundreds of Taiwanese, many in pajamas, marched in Taipei Saturday to protest poor government handling of a deadly typhoon disaster that killed more than 760 people.
Thousands were left homeless when the typhoon hit southern and eastern Taiwan in early August. Many people were buried alive by mudslides triggered by the storm.
'We stage this protest because we are highly dissatisfied with the poor government performance in handling the Typhoon Morakot disaster,' one organizer said.
The government acknowledged that it had responded slowly and ineffectively to the disaster, and the head of the Cabinet resigned to take responsibility.
