Bare cop: Australian police caught streaking
Sep 21, 2009, 10:20 GMT
Sydney - Shoppers in Brisbane were not dreaming when they saw two naked men get back into a police van after running round it in broad daylight in the middle of Australia's third-largest city, Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Stewart said Monday.
He admitted that more than two officers might have stripped off and joined in Sunday's streak.
'Early indications are there may have been other officers without clothes on,' a grim-faced Stewart said. 'Words fail me to be able to describe the disappointment.'
The incident was reported to police by a woman who witnessed it while waiting at traffic lights.
One of the six officers in the van was on-duty at the time.
Stewart said those were were naked could face willful exposure and public nuisance charges along with internal disciplinary action.
'The officers are remorseful and extremely sorry for the embarrassment caused to the Queensland Police Service,' he said. 'The incident occurred during a buck's party and is totally out of character with officers' normal demeanour.'
