Monster python lifts Australian snake catcher
Sep 23, 2009, 1:52 GMT
Sydney - Two snake catchers called in reinforcements Wednesday after one of them was lifted clean off the ground by a python that is not even the largest of the trio they are trying to remove from the roof of a Cairns boat club.
Aaron Chapman and colleague Isaac Scott managed to bag males measuring 5.5 metres and 3.2 metres but called in more muscle from the Australian Venom Zoo at nearby Kuranda to help with the 6.4-metre female.
'It took about two-and-a-half-hours to get the males out,' Chapman said of their struggle with the non-venomous pythons. 'We grabbed one, and it swung around and lifted Isaac, my larger colleague, off the ground.'
He told the Cairns Post newspaper that the three pythons would be released together into rainforest near Kuranda.
