Bartoli quits final to hand Bali win to Rezai
Nov 8, 2009, 7:40 GMT
Bali, Indonesia - France's Aravane Rezai won her third title of the season 7-5 Sunday as injured Marion Bartoli quit their final at the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions.
The top-seeded Bartoli could not go on after 62 minutes, losing the only set played on her first double fault. Before that point, she had her left thigh taped. After losing the set, she told the chair umpire she could not continue.
The victory gave 44th-ranked Rezai a sweep this week at the year-end event after coming to Bali following consecutive first-round losses in Beijing, Linz and Luxembourg.
The 22-year-old turned her luck around at the tropical resort with two group wins and a semi-final defeat of Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
Rezai claimed the second trophy of her career after Strasbourg in May. She also claimed her career-best payday of 200,000 dollars in victory.
Bartoli had played the Bali final in 2006 when the event was a regular WTA stop.
