APEC to receive 1-million-dollar gift from Taiwan
Nov 11, 2009, 13:36 GMT
Taipei - Taiwan will donate 1 million US dollars to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to support the organization's project, the Central News Agency (CNA) said Wednesday.
The gift is to be announced Thursday at an APEC summit of CEOs in Singapore, said Taiwanese Transport Minister Mao Chi-kuo, reported CNA.
Half of the money will be earmarked for security projects, the rest for an energy efficiency fund, Mao said.
APEC is one of the few international organizations China has allowed Taiwan to join, as Beijing sees Taipei as its breakaway province.
