This Christmas, beware of popping corks
Dec 16, 2009, 0:46 GMT
Sydney - Champagne corks injure 20 Australians a year and Christmas is high season for getting one in the eye, Sydney's Vision Eye Institute warned Wednesday.
'Most of the injuries are the person actually holding the bottle,' the institute's Michael Lawless said. 'People will try and open the bottle and when it gets stuck they look at the cork - which explodes.'
He said stoppers can travel at 65 kilometres per hour and pack more of a punch than a fist.
