Prayer can kill cancer, Australian archbishop says
Dec 21, 2009, 0:46 GMT
Sydney - Prayer can beat cancer but hoping for a miracle cure is a 'very long shot,' the leader of Australia's 5 million Catholics said Monday.
'Yes, obviously (cancer can be cured by prayer),' Cardinal George Pell told public broadcaster ABC. 'And there are quite a number of examples in the books.'
But the Sydney Archbishop said terminally ill people should realize that miracle cures are very rare.
At the weekend, the Vatican acknowledged the second of two miracles by Mary MacKillop, in which she is said to have cured a woman of inoperable cancer. The woman offered prayers to MacKillop, who died 100 years ago.
MacKillop is set to become Australia's first saint.
