Prime Minister Hatoyama Cabinet's approval ratings fall
Mar 8, 2010, 1:28 GMT
Tokyo - The approval rating for Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's Cabinet declined to 41 per cent, down 3 percentage points from a month earlier, major daily Yomiuri's survey said Monday.
The Cabinet's disapproval rating rose by 3 percentage points to 50 per cent, the paper said.
Many Japanese people's disappointment with Prime Minister Hatoyama's Cabinet was also seen in a Kyodo News poll conducted Sunday. The approval rating for the Cabinet fell to 36.3 per cent, the lowest level since the Cabinet was inaugurated September, when it enjoyed a support rate of 72 per cent, Kyodo News said.
The Kyodo survey also showed 58.6 per cent of those polled said they did not believe it would be desirable for the ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) to secure sole control both chambers of the Diet, Japan's parliament.
A House of Councilors election is to be held in summer. The DPJ holds 116 seats in the 242-seat upper House of Councilors.
