Zamboanga City, Philippines - A government militiaman and a Muslim separatist rebel were killed Saturday in a clash in southern Philippines, a military report said.
The fighting erupted when Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels fired at a group of government militiamen guarding a local official in Sumisip town in Basilan province, 900 kilometres south of Manila.
Another government militiaman and several more rebels were wounded in the firefight, the report said.
More troops have been dispatched to the area to pursue the fleeing rebels, the report said.
