Zamboanga City, Philippines - One Muslim militant was killed and 14 were captured Saturday in a clash with government troops in the southern Philippines, a regional army commander said.
The fighting erupted at dawn when troops raided a hideout of Abu Sayyaf rebels in Sumisip town in Basilan province, 900 kilometres south of Manila, according to Major General Arturo Ortiz.
Ortiz said troops recovered six assault rifles, ammunition, two-way radios and mobile phones from the rebel hideout.
The military did not suffer any casualties in the fighting.
The Abu Sayyaf is the smallest but most violent Muslim rebel group in the southern Philippines. It has been blamed for deadly terrorist attacks and high-profile kidnappings in the country.
