Wellington - Only telemarketers are worse than politicians, according to a New Zealand survey of the most and least trusted professions published on Tuesday.
The Reader's Digest annual survey shows sex workers, ranked 38, are more trusted than politicians at 39th with telemarketers last out of 40 professions.
Others in the bottom 10 of least trusted workers on the list are fast-food servers, financial planners, chief executives, tow-truck drivers, journalists, real-estate agents and car salesmen.
Firefighters retained the most-trusted spot atop the list, followed by ambulance officers, pilots, nurses and doctors.
Corporal Willie Apiata of New Zealand's crack Special Air Services, who won a Victoria Cross for bravery in Afghanistan, was the most trusted individual for the third year running.
He was followed by Kevin Milne, veteran presenter of a consumer affairs TV programme Fair Go, and former Olympic champion Sir Peter Snell.
Politicians took nine of the last 10 least trusted individual spots.
