Catholic charity sacks board for bullying
Jul 12, 2010, 5:49 GMT
Sydney - The Catholic charity St Vincents de Paul Society sacked the board of one of its largest councils for bullying.
The society's national president, Syd Tutton, said Monday that a culture of bullying had developed at the New South Wales (NSW) branch administration after it adopted a culture of corporatization.
Tutton said the move was not about personalities but a corporate culture that had alienated the poor and marginalized people who were at the heart of the society's mission.
'This is a move to return the society in NSW to the grassroots members out of respect for their magnificent dedication to the mission on the ground to people on the margins,' Tutton said.
Supporters of the society complained the board had become mean and bullied volunteers and staff as it strived to transform the charity using a corporate model.
