Singapore eatery serves up giant-fish menu
Jul 17, 2010, 5:08 GMT
Singapore - A Singapore Chinese restaurant Saturday presented a special menu for a 220-kilogram grouper fish, pricing each of its 3-kilogram eyeballs at 400 Singapore dollars (290 US dollars), and a serving of its lips and mouth at 120 Singapore dollars.
The fish's 1-kilogram throat is priced at 300 Singapore dollars
The gargantuan fish, caught off Borneo island Thursday, was flown to Singapore for the tables of Second Kitchen, which had paid 6,000 Singapore dollars for the catch.
Each eyeball is about the size of a football and would be double-boiled for three hours with orange cordyceps, then served in a light broth, according to a report by The Straits Times.
Second Kitchen owner Johnny Tan said the blackfin Queensland grouper could feed about 700 people. He plans to cook all of the fish - head, fins, scales, gills, tail - the lot.
'A fish this size is a rare treat,' said Tan, adding that he paid 3,000 Singapore dollars for a 150-kilogram specimen three weeks ago, all of which was sold within three days.
