Jul 29, 2010, 11:55 GMT
Singapore - A Singapore district court jailed a woman for two months on Thursday for abusing her Indonesian maid, a news report said.
Siti Farhana Mohamed Yahkup was also 5,000 fined Singapore dollars for getting her younger sister to recruit a maid for her, as she was disqualified from hiring one herself, the Straits Times reported.
The maid, Ningsih, 29, had been working for flight stewardess Siti for seven months when her employer assaulted her by grabbing her head and banging it against the wall of the apartment in November 2008, the report said.
Siti's husband, Mohammed Szami At'tirmidzi Supa'at, stood accused of kicking the maid in the shin but was given a discharge amounting to an acquittal, according to the online report.
