Ivanovic makes return to Top 20 with Bali success (Roundup)
Nov 7, 2010, 11:25 GMT
Bali, Indonesia - Ana Ivanovic won her second title from her last three events to end her WTA season with a defeat of Russian Alisa Kleybanova 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the final of the Bali Tournament of Champions Sunday.
The Serb who stood number one after winning the French Open two years ago, will charge into 2011 on a high after her recent success.
Ivanovic is expected to rise back to 17th on the WTA after sinking as low as 65th in February.
But she is not ready to call her return to form complete. 'There will be ups and downs. I need to get to the level where I'm comfortable against top players all the time.
'I feel very confident about my game and my fitness. My game is getting close to where it used to be. I'm playing more aggressive, I'm much more mature and a more complete player now.'
The title over Kleybanova, winner of trophies this season in Kuala Lumpur and Seoul, was the tenth for Ivanovic, who marked her 23rd birthday Saturday by beating Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm.
Ivanovic won the title on her third match point against Kleybanova to lift her season record to 33-20.
Earlier, the 40-year-old Date Krumm won Sunday's playoff for third spot at the eight-woman event for winners of International level WTA events during 2010 with a defeat of Daniela Hantuchova 7-5, 7-5.
Date Krumm, who made a return to tennis after more than a decade away, has completed her third comeback season and will stand around 45th in the world.
The Japanese claimed the opener against Hantuchova in 66 minutes on her fourth set point. She lost serve to love while serving for victory in the second but earned the honours two games later.
'It was my last match on the WTA this year so I felt very tired,' said date Krumm. 'But I wanted to finish on a high note.
'Even though I did not play my best tennis, this tournament has been a great success for me.'
Date Krumm will take a few days off before flying to Guangzhou for the Asian Games.
