Nov 10, 2010, 0:01 GMT
Wellington - A 3-year-old child apprehended for causing wilful damage was the youngest person dealt with by police in the last fiscal year, while a 98-year-old shoplifter was the oldest, according to official figures released Wednesday.
The toddler was given a warning, as was a 4-year-old apprehended for threatening to kill with a 'stabbing/cutting weapon,' The Press newspaper reported, citing police records.
Under the Crimes Act, no child under 10 can be convicted of an offence, being deemed too young to have criminal intentions.
The 98-year-old and another aged 94 were cautioned for shoplifting incidents, while another 94-year-old was apprehended for assaulting a woman.
