Lovesick civil servant lucky to keep his job
Nov 15, 2010, 23:07 GMT
Sydney - A love-struck Australian civil servant who appealed to thousands of his Canberra colleagues for help in finding a 'tall and olive-skinned' woman he met at a weekend party learned Tuesday he would keep his job but be punished for breaking public service email protocols.
More than 4,000 Immigration Department staff received an email from Steve Tucker pleading for the contact details for a woman he said was called Olivia who had 'left a strong impression' when their paths crossed at a weekend party.
'I have struggled to write and send this message,' Tucker admitted in the group email. 'It has taken all of my willpower. Life is too short.'
The mass emailing came up trumps. Olivia has come forward - but she said she had no recollection of meeting the man of her dreams on Saturday night.
