Nov 22, 2010, 4:26 GMT
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian authorities detained a Thai woman at the border between the two countries after allegedly discovering 18.9 kilograms of cannabis in her bags, a news report said Monday.
The 34-year-old woman from Bangkok was entering the country in a taxi on Friday when customs officers conducted a routine inspection of her two bags, according to Ishak Ahmad, director of the Kedah state's immigration department.
Officers reportedly found 20 slabs of cannabis, worth more than 45,000 ringgit (14,000 dollars), hidden among her clothes, he was quoted as saying by the Star newspaper.
The suspect was remanded in custody and would be charged with trafficking, which carries the mandatory death sentence by hanging.
Ishak said anti-narcotics officers seized a total of 81.5 kilograms of drugs, worth some 1.5 million ringgit, at the border from January to November this year.
