Taiwan man crashes car into school, injuring children
Dec 20, 2010, 3:19 GMT
Taipei - A man crashed his car carrying four containers of petrol into a Taiwan primary school on Monday, injuring himself and four pupils.
Wu Chuan-ming, 67, reportedly rammed his car into Puchien Primary School in Panchiao near Taipei as the pupils were arriving.
The car knocked down four children, aged 6 to 12. When some teachers and pupils' parents stopped the car, Wu allegedly ignited one petrol container, burning his face and hands.
Teachers and parents put out the fire with extinguishers and overpowered Wu, who suffered burns to 20 per cent of his body and was unconscious until his arrival at hospital.
The four pupils hit by the car suffered injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.
Police found four plastic containers of petrol in Wu's car, and were probing the motive for the apparent attack.
